The main role and application effect of Lactobacillus acidophilus in livestock and poultry production

Because the toxic and side effects of antibiotic additives have brought great harm to livestock and poultry production, it is imperative to find feed additives to replace antibiotics. Lactobacillus acidophilus  is considered to be an ideal substitute because of its physiological functions such as regulating intestinal flora, inhibiting the generation of undesirable microorganisms, improving immunity and lowering cholesterol, and is widely used in the production of livestock and poultry.

1. Research progress on the application of Lactobacillus acidophilus in ruminants

The study found that "Kangfusin", which uses Lactobacillus acidophilus as the main ingredient, is more effective in preventing and treating lamb diarrhea than conventional drugs such as oxytetracycline and furazolidone, and has obvious weight gain effects. Guo Chunhua et al. added ruminant micro-ecological function feed made by Lactobacillus acidophilus to the concentrate feed of fattening cattle. Improves visual digestibility and increases the number of cellulolytic and lactic acid producing bacteria in the rumen. Lactobacillus acidophilus also significantly increased the content of immunoglobulins IgA, IgG and IgM in bovine serum.

2. Research progress on the application of Lactobacillus acidophilus in poultry

Lactobacillus acidophilus and aureomycin preparations were added to the feed of yellow-feathered broiler chickens respectively, and it was found that Lactobacillus acidophilus improved the weight gain and feed conversion rate of yellow-feathered broilers, and the effect on crude protein, fat, calcium and phosphorus Metabolic rates were higher than those of aureomycin preparations. And Lactobacillus acidophilus significantly increased the number of mast cells and goblet cells in chicken small intestine mucosa, while aureomycin reduced the number of these two cells related to mucosal immunity. Lan Guilin and other studies found that Lactobacillus acidophilus preparations can reduce the incidence of pullorum in chicks, and can also increase the cure rate of pullorum in chicks.

3. Research progress on the application of Lactobacillus acidophilus in captive wild animals

The study found that due to the unique physiological and biochemical characteristics of Lactobacillus acidophilus, it can be used as a special probiotic additive for Ussuri raccoon dog. Adding an appropriate amount of Lactobacillus acidophilus to the feed can effectively promote the growth of raccoon dogs. The effects of different proportions of Lactobacillus acidophilus on the weight gain of blue foxes were studied, and the results showed that the addition of 0.05% Lactobacillus acidophilus can effectively promote the growth of blue foxes.

4. Research progress on the application of Lactobacillus acidophilus in pig production

In terms of improving the growth performance of pigs, Liao Ke found that the addition of 3% and 5% of the culture of Lactobacillus acidophilus can improve the feed conversion rate of weaned piglets, improve the intestinal morphology and structure, thereby improving the growth performance of weaned piglets. Chen Hongmei added lactobacillus tablets composed of Lactobacillus acidophilus and its metabolites to the feed, which can significantly increase the daily gain of weaned piglets and reduce the feed-to-weight ratio. Cao Shuting and others found that the montmorillonite-Lactobacillus acidophilus compound can increase the average daily gain of weaned piglets and significantly improve the growth performance of piglets. In terms of the impact on the intestinal morphology and structure of pigs, Liao Ke found that adding cultures of Lactobacillus acidophilus to feed can promote the growth of small intestinal villi, increase the height of villi, and reduce the depth of crypts. Lactobacillus acidophilus can make piglet jejunum microvilli dense and neat. The study found that the montmorillonite-Lactobacillus acidophilus complex increased the ratio of villus height to crypt depth in the small intestine of weaned piglets, and decreased the FD4 permeability of the jejunum and colon. In the study of digestive enzyme activity, intestinal barrier function and improving immunity, adding 3% Lactobacillus acidophilus to the feed of weaned piglets improved the activities of sucrase, lactase and maltase in the jejunum of piglets, and could It reduces the pH value of the small intestine, promotes the proliferation of beneficial bacteria, and strengthens the intestinal barrier function; the study of immunoglobulins found that the level of IgA was significantly increased. Lactobacillus acidophilus can increase the content of lactic acid bacteria in the colon and jejunum, and can relieve the intestinal barrier damage of piglets. The content of immunoglobulin in the serum of weaned piglets was measured, and it was found that Lactobacillus acidophilus can significantly increase the levels of IgA and IgG, indicating that Lactobacillus acidophilus can improve the immune level of pigs as a feed additive. In terms of prevention and treatment of diarrhea, the use of Lactobacillus acidophilus preparations to prevent diarrhea in piglets can significantly reduce the incidence rate, and the effect of Lactobacillus acidophilus is better than that of conventional agents such as chloramphenicol for the treatment of piglets that have developed the disease. In addition, there are studies on the apparent digestibility of nutrients of Lactobacillus acidophilus to pigs.
