 Summary of the international African swine fever epidemic in the 28th week of 2022

1. An outbreak of African swine fever in domestic pigs occurred in Ukraine 

On July 21, Ukraine reported an outbreak of African swine fever in domestic pigs in Sumy Prefecture, and one domestic pig died of infection. 

2. 5 outbreaks of African swine fever in domestic pigs in South Africa 

On July 21 and 22, South Africa reported 5 outbreaks of African swine fever in domestic pigs in 4 places including Liberty Province, 642 domestic pigs were infected and 634 died. 

3. 5 cases of African swine fever in wild boars and 2 cases in domestic pigs in Romania 

On July 22, Romania reported that 5 wild boars and 2 domestic pigs had African swine fever outbreaks in 5 places including Jalomica County. 5 wild boars were infected and died, 8 domestic pigs were infected, 2 died, and 6 were culled. 

4. Two outbreaks of African swine fever in domestic pigs occurred in Nepal 

On July 22, Nepal reported two outbreaks of African swine fever in domestic pigs in two places including the central region, with 249 domestic pigs infected and 243 dead. 

5. A wild boar African swine fever outbreak occurred in North Macedonia 

On July 25, North Macedonia reported a wild boar African swine fever outbreak in Kamenica district of Macedonia, and one wild boar died of infection. 

6. 4 cases of African swine fever in wild boars and 12 cases in domestic pigs in Russia 

On July 25, Russia reported that 4 wild boars and 12 domestic pigs had African swine fever outbreaks in 6 places including Kostroma State. 5 wild boars were infected and died, 495 domestic pigs were infected, 470 died, and 199 were culled. 

7. 51 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boars in Latvia 

On July 26, Latvia reported that 51 wild boar African swine fever outbreaks occurred in three places including Riga City, and 73 wild boars were infected and died. 

8. 2 wild boar African swine fever outbreaks in Hungary 

On July 26, Hungary reported two wild boar African swine fever outbreaks in Soborc-Sotermar-Belag Region, and two wild boars died of infection.
