Summary of International Avian Influenza Epidemic Situation in the 6th Week of 2023

1. Two outbreaks of wild bird H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza occurred in Slovenia 

On February 9, Slovenia notified 2 highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks of H5N1 subtype in wild birds in Central Slovenia, and 3 wild birds were infected and died. 

2. Five outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds occurred in Sweden 

On February 9 and 14, Sweden notified 5 highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks of H5N1 subtype in wild birds in 4 places including Västra Götland province, and 5 wild birds were infected and died. 

3. A wild bird H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak occurred in Italy 

On February 8, Italy notified a wild bird H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, and 1 wild bird was infected and died. 

4. A wild bird H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak occurred in Cuba 

On February 9, Cuba notified a wild bird H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak in Havana Province, and 5 wild birds were infected and died. 

5. A poultry H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak occurred in Spain 

On February 10, Spain notified an outbreak of H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza in poultry in the Catalonia Autonomous Region. 6,000 poultry were infected, 1,200 died, and 7,800 were culled. 

6. Three outbreaks of wild bird H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza occurred in Switzerland 

On February 10 and 13, Switzerland notified 3 highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks of H5N1 subtype in wild birds in the canton of Zurich, and 7 wild birds were infected and died. 

7. 13 poultry H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks occurred in Bolivia 

On February 10, Bolivia notified 13 poultry H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks in Cochabamba province, 99,000 poultry were infected, 36,000 died, and 170,000 were culled. 

8. 21 wild bird H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks occurred in Germany 

On February 9, Germany notified 21 highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks of H5N1 subtype in wild birds in Hamburg and other two places. 77 wild birds and free-range poultry were infected and died, and 100 were culled. 

9. 24 outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds occurred in Belgium 

On February 9th and 11th, Belgium notified 24 highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks of H5N1 subtype in wild birds in 2 places including the Flemish region. 62 wild birds and free-range poultry were infected and died, and 21 were culled. 

10. Four outbreaks of H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza occurred in poultry and three wild birds in the United States 

On February 10, the United States notified four outbreaks of H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza in poultry and three wild birds in Mississippi and other six places. 65,000 poultry were culled and 4 wild birds were infected and died. 

11. Five poultry H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks occurred in Canada 

On February 10, Canada notified five outbreaks of poultry H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza in Quebec, and 103 poultry were culled. 

12. Two outbreaks of wild bird H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza occurred in Romania 

On February 10, Romania notified 2 highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks of H5N1 subtype in wild birds in Brasova County, and 2 wild birds were infected and died. 

13. A wild bird H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak occurred in Colombia 

On February 8, Colombia notified an outbreak of H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds in Nariño province. 32 free-range poultry were infected and died, and 3 were culled. 

14. One wild bird and one poultry H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak occurred in Hungary 

On February 13 and 14, Hungary notified that 1 wild bird and 1 poultry H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak occurred in 2 places including Gyor-Moson-Sopron, 3 wild birds were infected and died, and 149 poultry The infection died, and 13,000 were culled. 

15. One outbreak of H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza occurred in poultry and 15 wild birds in the UK 

On February 10, the United Kingdom notified that 1 poultry and 15 wild birds H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks occurred in three places including Scotland. 3,670 poultry were infected, 3,159 died, 29,000 were culled, and 28 wild birds and Free-range poultry were infected, 27 died and 39 were culled. 

16. An outbreak of H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds occurred in Chile 

On February 10, Chile notified an outbreak of H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds in the Bio-Bio region. 22 wild birds and free-range poultry were infected, 10 died and 70 were culled. 

17. Five outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 subtype occurred in poultry and 29 wild birds in France 

On February 10, France notified 5 cases of poultry and 29 wild birds H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks in 6 places including the Côte d'Armor in the Brittany region. 6,130 poultry were infected, 172 died, and 8.7 10,000 were culled, 380 wild birds and free-range poultry were infected, 379 died, and 137 were culled. 

18. A wild bird H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak occurred in Russia 

On February 14, Russia notified a wild bird H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak in the Republic of Dagestan, and 5 wild birds were infected and died. 

19. Eleven outbreaks of H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds occurred in Austria 

On February 14, Austria notified 11 highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks of H5N1 subtype in wild birds in 4 places including Lower Austria, and 15 wild birds were infected and died. 

20. 17 highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks in wild birds H5N1 occurred in the Czech Republic 

On February 15, the Czech Republic notified 17 highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks of H5N1 subtype in wild birds in 4 places including the Central Czech Republic. 206 free-range poultry were infected and died, and 322 were culled.
